“We are all confident we can make it when we return to playing Test cricket. I believe we have come along way,” the 25-year-old said in an interview from Harare.

Zimbabwe will resume Test cricket with a series of matches against Asian rivals Bangladesh.

Zimbabwe last played a Test match six years ago. It withdrew from the five-day game after an exodus of its top players following disagreements with the Zimbabwe Cricket leadership.

A number of these players have returned, much to the improvement of the team’s performances subsequently paving way for a return to that level of the game.

Taylor, the 25-year-old opening batsman last Friday replaced all-rounder Elton Chigumbura who resigned from the post in April after the International Cricket Council World Cup.

Meanwhile, yesterday (Wednesday), a Zimbabwe select side began their series of matches against Australia and South Africa 'A' teams in a triangular limited-overs tournament.

A Zimbabwe XI will then play Australia 'A' in two four-day games in July, starting July 15 and July 21.

New Zealand will tour Zimbabwe in October and a reciprocal tour by Zimbabwe is planned for early 2012.
