The event’s Marketing Manager, Staphanie Schultzern, recently announced that the qualifying period for the 2012 edition of the race would be September 1, 2011 – March 7, 2012.

“Due to a renewed interest amongst the ultra marathon running fraternity, participants are encouraged to get their qualifying marathon done as soon as they can and to submit their entry to avoid disappointment,” said Schultzern.

She also revealed that online entries for the marathon, which is SA’s biggest road running event, would open on October 5, 2011 for the event slated for Easter Saturday - April 7, 2012.

Besides Honest Mutsakani (2001), Moses Munjodzi (2006) and three-time champion, Marko Mambo (2004, 2005 and 2008) no other Zimbabwean has won the 56 km event.
