Mugabe's dogs cause mayhem in SA
President Robert Mugabe's intelligence unit that includes members of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) and army's intelligence department has been implicated in the recent malicious xenophobic attacks in Johannesburg on foreigners many of them Zimbabweans.
A source with direct knowledge of the attacks revealed today that the attack is intelligent maneuvers by the Harare administration to take Zimbabwe crisis in the region as a way to push Zimbabwe's president elect Morgan Tsvangirai to accept a lower post in the government of national unity. The idea is to create a state of widespread regional panic that can be used to arm-twist the MDC into agreeing to a negotiated settlement with Mugabe remaining at the helm', the source said. Given the reported surge in state sponsored violence in Zimbabwe and the negative publicity that has been generated, the attacks on Zimbabwean immigrants has provided the necessary diversions, the source added Commenting on the attacks after visiting victims, ANC stalwart Winnie Mandela said the precision of the attacks suggested that they were well organised and coordinated. These are acts of criminals and not South Africans. These attacks can only have been an act of organised criminals pursuing an agenda known only to them', said Mandela. Earlier in the week, there had been reports suggesting that South Africa's opposition party Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) had a hand in the attacks. However he party has since denied the allegations saying the attacks were community responses to lack of service delivery by the SA. Commenting on the attacks MDC Spokesperson Nelson Chamisa has said the party was investigating the possibility of the Zimbabwean intelligence having engineered the attacks. We are aware that the Mugabe and his agents are prepared to do all sort of criminal acts to divert international and domestic attention from their crisis of illegitimacy. As a party we will continue to support all Zimbabweans who have been affected by these criminal acts and call on the SA government to fully investigate the possible hand of the Zimbabwean authorities in these acts of barbarism'.
