Close embassy, demand Zims in SA Print

PRODEMOCRACY Zimbabwean groups in South Africa have threatened to close down their country's embassy in Pretoria on Thursday afternoon to demonstrate their grievances regarding the failure by their government to allow millions of Zimbabweans in the diaspora to cast their vote in the March elections.
The march is being coordinated by the Zimbabwe Youth Network. Organizers said the embassy was purposeless as it did not serve the interest of Zimbabweans.
"Not only do we stand no chance of voting in the March election, the embassy has also failed to address the grievances we face in xenophobic South Africa. We urge all concerned Zimbabweans to be there. Our vote is our democratic right which we however have been denied by the Mugabe regime," said Zimbabwe Youth Network President, Simon Mudekwa.
Outspoken church leader, Reverend Mufaro Hove, who was arrested in the previous march to Pretoria, said he fully supported the resistance urging the demonstrations to be rolled out to Zimbabwean embassies around the world.
"If I had my way, Zimbabweans in the diaspora would march to all their embassies around the world and shut them down. Those embassies are not serving our interests but the interests of one crook and mass assassin by the name of Robert Mugabe," he said.
The Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa has been the scene of many confrontation sbetween the country's exiles and their leadership and at times has degenerated into a running battle between the exiles and overzealous members of the South African Police Services. - Own correspondent
