HARARE- Harare giants Dynamos made up for their failure to win the league title this year when they secured the second slot for the prestigious African Champions League after beating rivals Shooting Stars 3-1 in their final league match of the season at Rufaro yesterday.Dynamos who lost the championship raceĀ to underdogs Gunners went into the match needing nothing short of victory to secure the second slot for the African Safari. And, to their credit, they did not disappoint their passionate fans as they ran riot through goals from Philip Marufu, Cuthbert Malajila and substitute Evans Gwekwerere. Shooting Stars, whose camp was thrown into turmoil following the sacking of their entire coaching department just 30 minutes before the match scored a consolation through former CAPS United striker Limited Chikafa. The victory saw Dynamos piping bitter city rivals CAPS United to the runners up position in the league race after CAPS United fell 0-2 to Motor Action in another league match at Motor Action Sports Club. Dynamos were presented with their US $25 000 cheque for finishing second best. The victory will see DeMbare having another dance with the African Safari as Zimbabwe were given two slots for the lucrative African Champions League and another two for less prestigious CAF Cup. Dynamos who won the league title in 2007 reached the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament last year. CAPS United who finished in third position in the league race despite their defeat to Motor Action yesterday, will play in the less prestigious Confederation of African Football. Lengthens who finished in fourth position will also play in the same tournament. |
