malawi_chikumbutso_mtumodziPresident Bingu wa Mutharika has dropped State House Press Officer, Chikumbutso Mtumodzi (pictured), Nyasa Times understands.

According to government insiders, Mtumodzi has been redeployed to Ministry of Information  as Director of Information.

He will be in the department where Bob Chilemba is deputy director of film unit and Aubrey Sumbuleta is deputy director of civic education.

“Mtumodzi has been removed as State House spokesman. He has been posted to Ministry of Information,” informed a government source.

Mtumodzi, a former politician, is reported to have lost President Mutharika’s favour, four months after polls.

A source s confided in Nyasa Times that Mutharika recently removed the name of Mtumodzi on the list of officials to accompany him to Brazil and United Nations general assembly respectively, the first time in the history of State House.

Efforts to get Mtumodzi’s side of the story proved futile as his mobile just kept ringing.

Since winning the May general elections with a landslide victory he has thwarted careers of many people that helped him in his first term when he had a minority in Parliament.

He dropped from cabinet former Justice Minister and Section 65 strategist Henry Phoya, Democratic Progressive Party treasurer Henry Mussa and eloquent Ken Lipenga who is organising Secretary for his party.

Before dropping the big ‘three’ from cabinet boasted before the press that he was unpredictable. He has since moved out of State House Director-General Bruce Munthali, Chief Political Advisor, Hetherwick Ntaba and Christian Affairs special assistant Malani Mtonga.
