They even fear their own shadows, cant that damn order be challenged in court and surely have lots of egg on the faces of Chihuri and his hoodlums

 HARARE- Prolific musician, Raymond Majongwe (pictured), who is the secretary general of the Progressive Teachers ‘Union of Zimbabwe, (PTUZ), has been banned from performing at Richwood Paraplegic Club in Mabelreign in a turf war with the Police Band.Majongwe and the Police Band have, over the past weeks, been staging shows at the open air, but club officials who spoke to The Zimbabwean said that following a recent performance by the band, they were ordered to pay a fine of US$50 for staging an illegal rally. “We are really not too sure why we were made to pay a fine because Majongwe just came to play here like any other musician. It was only later that some members of the Police Internal Security Intelligence mentioned that members of the Police Band had complained that they could not perform at the same venue as Majongwe, who is perceived as an anti government activist,” said the official. Majongwe, whose latest release, Dhiziri kuChinhoyi, is a crowd favourite, said he did not understand why playing at the Paraplegic Club was causing problems. “I have played at other venues in Harare, Chinhoyi, Bulawayo, Chegutu, Mhondoro and other parts of the country but have never had any problems. I have even given copies of my music to Webster Shamu, the Minister responsible for information and publicity, and Nelson Chamisa, the Minister for ICTs.” He said he was summoned by Mabelreign Police who could not say which aspect of his music they objected to. “They said they had received reports that I had sung ‘improper’ music from some people but they would not elaborate.” |
