Zanu (PF) at a dead end Print
Written by Letters
Tuesday, 13 October 2009 15:31
zanu_youthEDITOR – Zanu (PF) has now reached a dead end with nothing to offer the electorate except violence. President Jacob Zuma is a true Freedom Fighter, following the foot steps of the icon and veteran, Madiba.

Zanu (PF) is trying to sabotage the 2010 world games in South Africa by childishly demanding the removal of non-existent sanctions.
The party has nothing to offer the electorate except loans from stolen money and hidden coffers for war. Where is Zanu (PF) getting money from to pay its militia, green bombers and the CIO?
Zanu (PF) is running a parallel government and Biti cannot catch up with them as they had enough time to remove records and hide the essentials. The Zanu (PF) Youth congress and Women’s Conference demand for change of leadership is a wake up call for Mugabe.
The coming congress will be the Polokwane shift towards democracy and government for the people. President Zuma cannot let unpatriotic chancers sabotage the 2010 games because of frivolous reasons.
Forward with President Zuma and COSATU, send a fact finding mission and see for your selves the violence in this troubled country. The old man is too old to drive over potholes and gullies to go to Sanyati for a rally. Everything in Zimbabwe is rotten. Robert Mugabe is no longer in charge. Mugabe must go, Gono must go Tomana must go. – J.J. BAZOOKA

MP with a difference
EDITOR - Murewa west constituency, Member of Parliament, Honourable Ward Nezi is an MP with a difference. He identifies himself with the community he serves and helps the needy He is a father to the orphans, a husband to the widows and a brother to the widowers. He donated some glasses to St Paul’s Musami Mission Hospital and other hospital equipment to Nohoreka clinic in Musami business centre. He attends funeral and memorial services in his constituency. MP Nezi’s love for his constituency is not compromised.
On October 10, 2009, the Honourable MP attended a memorial service for Garikai Kadumba at Kadumba homestead near Cassino in Murewa. He preached the gospel of love, peace and unity. People were amazed because they thought it was a taboo for a Member of Parliament to attend such gatherings. Since the beginning of time, people have never seen a Member of Parliament at a funeral of an ordinary person who is not his relative. One could see people whispering on each other’s ears as the MP spoke.
I guess they were commending him for his love and sense of belonging.
From Kadumba’s homestead, the MP went to Chizanga to attend another funeral. The people were very amazed again because they did not anticipate his visit. The MP gave his condolence speech and donated two 50kg bags maize to help at the funeral.
From Chizanga, Honourable Ward Nezi, visited Chikwekwe family in Musami to attend another funeral. At this funeral, there was drama when the MP arrived. The controversial Eric Jonasi and Arnold Nerwande were there, the Zanu (PF) thugs who butchered people during the controversial run-off Presidential elections on 27 June 2008.
When Jonasi caught a glimpse of the MP, he came forward to greet the MP with his tail between his legs.
Ward Nezi gave his condolence speech at Chikwekwe Homestead and donated two 50kg bags of maize to help at the funeral. He advocated for things that money could not secure - love, peace and tranquillity. He even recognized the Zanu (PF) winning councillor, Mai Chirenda in his opening speech.
The people of Murewa west constituency have learnt that anyone can be an MP, but an MP with a difference like Honourable Ward Nezi comes from God.
Honourable MP Ward Nezi, keep up the good work. People of Murewa west constituency love you. May the God of Abraham, Jacob and Isaac give you many more years to live and serve us. – MATIGARI, by e-mail

Moyo cannot cheat the people forever
EDITOR - If news I have just heard that Lwazi Sibanda, Professor Jonathan Moyo's
campaign manager in the harmonised March 2008 elections, has ditched Moyo for rejoining Zanu (PF) is anything to go by, then both Moyo and Zanu (PF) are in for a huge shock.
Moyo has used lies and cruelty in the past to mislead the people of Zimbabwe. But the people cannot be lied to forever. The people have now realised the evil nature of
Professor Moyo, and will now know how to handle him. You can fool the people once or twice, but not for the third time.
It appears  Moyo has already been at work even before the announcement of his intention to re-join the dying party was announced. The lies in The Herald about the parliamentary constitutional commission being on strike, and the lie that Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai chaired a Council of Ministers which endorsed Zimbabwe's withdrawal from the SADC Tribunal are all typical Professor Moyo style propaganda. Unfortunately, Moyo used media that has long been discredited by all
Zimbabweans, some of whom now buy The Herald only for sporting news.
I would like to congratulate the people of Tsholotsho for their wise
decision to prepare and submit a petition demanding the disqualification of Jonathan Moyo from parliament. If Moyo thinks he has popular support in Tsholotsho, he should do the noble thing and give up his seat as he did not win it on a Zanu (PF) ticket. You cannot cheat people by pretending to denounce Zanu (PF) to win a parliamentary seat masquerading as an independent, then revert back to Zanu PF after securing the seat. The people of Tsholotsho will prevail over evil Professor Moyo. – BENJAMIN CHITATE, New Zealand

Grace needs grooming
EDITOR - Grace Mugabe needs extensive grooming and speech therapy. I'm ashamed to admit to foreign nationals that she is our first lady. I watched her on ZTV with some friends from the US while she was at the Danhiko Pralympics, she couldn't even read a prepared speech properly!
At the COMESA first ladies summit she committed gross atrocities against the English Language. Someone please give her a crash course on how to speak English or keep her in the background. How did educated Bob end up with such an airhead for a wife? – ANON, by e-mail

MDC must stay put
EDITOR - Things are not going as well as expected in the GNU. The marriage of convenience is not working as per everyone’s expectation.
The recent idea from the MDC party to consider leaving the unity government is not the best idea. Yes they will throw in the towel and expose Zanu (PF), but they will also expose the MDC and its followers.
If Zanu (PF) is left to do whatever it wants, it will definitely wage a war on the MDC structure and support base. The economy will fall again and chaos will reign. The inclusive nature of the government serves well to check the cruelty and extravagance of the regime.
Left to itself the rogue regime will make sure that the country’s resources are exploited to fuel the regime. Politics of patronage will benefit only those that lick the boots of the ‘powers- that- be’.
The pulling out of the MDC will leave the regime to abandon the constitution reform process and media freedom will be further curtailed. Furthermore the education, health and social sectors that are undergoing revival will be plunged into chaos. It’s evident that the regime does not care about the masses but the few that support it at whatever cost.
This move will only please the rich generals who have been trying for long to derail the GNU because they lost the free resources that the regime was giving them as payout for propping it. The main reason why Mugabe does not tell Gono to go is that he is the paymaster for the regime’s support engine. The fact that MDC holds the finance portfolio is a good check that the country’s resources are not channelled to the regime.
Yes the youth militia and the war veterans are still be paid as ghost workers, but if the MDC pulls out, it will be a free-for–all to the regime. The relative peace that the country is enjoying is because the once opposition parties are working together. This helped reduce polarization. Thus I believe MDC must stay put and try to push for change from within. The road is tough but they must soldier on for the future benefit of the majority. If MDC stays put, this will give confidence to investors and the people in the Diaspora will be encouraged to help and consider coming back home. Aluta continua. – STANFORD TAKAFAKARE, Pretoria

GPA re-negotiated
EDITOR - The GPA must be re-negotiated because one of the principals, namely Mugabe, is not acting and working within the agreed framework.
One wonders where the facilitator is considering that we expect him to be running up and down monitoring the adherence. Yes JOMIC was formed to that effect but situation on the ground show that Mugabe is acting unilaterally. He has usurped such power that the MDC has been left to be junior partners.
The regime is doing all that it can to frustrate the progress and efforts of the GNU. SADC as always and expected let down Zimbabwe. As guarantors of the GPA they agreed in February to review the progress after six months but seven months now into the unity government all they can say is that the EU and western government remove sanctions. Yes sanctions need to be removed but not by the Zimbabwean government. – ANON., by e-mail

Investigate the Pretoria embassy
EDITOR - I am a refugee in South Africa. Having spent the last few years doing all sorts of menial, manual and very low paying part time jobs, I was overjoyed to get an opportunity to study.
A UNHCR assistance project decided to pay my fees at a university of my choice. Finding a place was not difficult because I have a couple of decent certificates. As part of their requirements, South African universities ask foreign student to get a “Matric exemption” – an official acceptance that you passed an equivalent of their high school certificate (called Matric here) in your home country. For this procedure, one submits copies of all their academic certificates in triplicate, and they are supposed to be certified by your home country’s embassy or consular office.
You can imagine my happy mood as I bounced into Church Street in Pretoria, going down to our embassy. Where a fat, rude lady told me in Shona that I was supposed to pay for this service. I was surprised because if there is anything for free in South Africa, it is a certification stamp. You can walk into any police station and demand this service, and they will do it quickly because it is their job. Anyway, I had four certificates, meaning 12 copies, so I threw my bunch on her desk and put a 50 rand note on top, expecting some change. Clearly annoyed, the lady shot a glance at me, and in a high pitched voice, told me that it costs 150 rand to certify each copy. Shocked, I demanded that she justify such an exorbitant cost, whereupon she coolly told me that stationery costs are high.
I am not a financial analyst, but let us do some basic arithmetic here. I have to pay 1 800 rand to certify copies at my own home embassy. At this week’s exchange rate, this is US$ 240.00. This is more than President Mugabe’s current monthly salary! It is more than the cost of a whole realm of printing paper. It is almost twice what civil servants are getting per month in Zimbabwe. It is 200 rand more than the registration fees at the university where I found a place. I thought I had run away from misrule when I left Mutare, but do they have to follow us this far?
Does the embassy really have to recoup expenses from fleecing desperate refugees? If they get 50 people like me in a month, that is 90 000 rand! Is there any accountability mechanism in such embassy profit making schemes? Does the minister of Foreign Affairs sanction this tariff? I do not have this money, should I then be prevented from getting education, a human right, by these people? One cant get it back home either, so is this the freedom that my own father perished for in the liberation struggle?
A very corrupt South African Home Affairs official said he could furnish me with a South African ID for 500 rand. I am not corrupt, but do really need to insist on being Zimbabwean? What is in it for me? – PARADZAI MANGENJE, Pretoria

Unequipped ambulance
EDITOR – It was around 6pm on August 9 when I came across a Toyota minibus perched on an anthill 15m from the Harare-Masvingo Road. Being trauma qualified, I got out of the car to be handed a pair of gloves from a very professional policewoman from the back of a 306 patrol car. I received tremendous support from the Police officers in stabilizing the Casualties using all the resources we had on the scene.
I breathed a sigh of relief as the flashing lights of an ambulance got closer and closer. But, I got the shock of my life when the ambulance crew from Beatrice got to the scene. These were not ill-equipped, they were totally unequipped. There was nothing material in the ambulance that could help in assisting the people lying in pain before me.
Why can’t the Beatrice area be declared an area of concern and given priority in equipping the Beatrice Hospital with the necessary qualified staff, equipment etc.
Why not have even a fully trauma-equipped vehicle with qualified personnel on board within the vicinity on a 24/7 basis, I have visited countries were such initiatives saves a magnitude of lives.
Trauma qualified personnel and equipment can be seconded to the hospital on a rotational basis as the case during horse racing, soccer matches, national gatherings etc.
May I challenge the legislators to bring a tangible intervention to the accident and emergency response system at Beatrice Hospital to meet the challenges that it's facing in reducing the number of lives lost on this notorious strip of the road. – CASIM NKOLIMBO, Harare
