CHINHOYI - Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital in Mashonaland West has been operating without an X-ray processor, resulting in patients in need of the service being referred to Banket District Hospital.“Our x-ray processor is not functioning. The hospital does not have resources to repair the machine which broke down two months ago,” said a student nurse at the hospital, who refused to be named for fear of victimization. Despite being the most modern government hospital in the country, Chinhoyi provincial hospital – like many other public health institutions - is facing drug, health equipment and staff shortages. The 420-bed hospital was built as a joint venture between the Chinese and the Zimbabwean governments in the early 1990s but only opened its doors to the public in 1996. The hospital trains more than 60 nurses annually. |
